From: Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition drives cancer genomic instability

REvolutionary EMT promotes genomic instability and cancer progression. By utilizing multiple different genetic approaches, Perelli et al. demonstrated that EMT activation in tumor cells induces chromosomal instability and profound genomic alterations such as chromotripsis. Moreover, EMT is associated with increased chromatin accessibility at centromeric and pericentromeric regions resulting in delayed mitosis and catastrophic cell division.
